Tracey Bartley’s veteran galloper Sniper’s Bullet could be a runner in this year’s Group 1 Emirates Stakes, the final feature race of Flemington’s famous Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Triple Group 1 winner Sniper’s Bullet had a disappointing run last start, when the six-year-old finished dead last in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on April 3. After the run, no doubt affected by the fact he had gotten lose at Warwick Farm and collided with a car only a few weeks before, the Bite The Bullet gelding was sent for a 10-week spell with Bartley preparing him to return in the spring.
Now back in work, Sniper’s Bullet has a big end of year campaign planned that will include runs in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, following a similar path that lead him to dual Group 1 success in WA last year when he took out both the Railway Stakes (1400m) and the Kingston Town Classic (1800m).
Sniper’s Bullet is expected to resume racing in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) at Randwick in early October.
Bartley has named the $1 million Emirates Stakes (1600m) as Sniper’s Bullet’s main Melbourne target, the prestigious mile race held the Saturday directly after the world renowned 150th Melbourne Cup.
