Three-year-old The Handsome One has his connections looking towards the 2010 Emirates Stakes on the final day of Flemington’s famous four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival after winning at the esteemed Melbourne track this week.
Shamardal gelding The Handsome One secured a tidy win ahead of Beyond Pardon in a 1200m handicap at Flemington on Monday, his third win from just five career starts. It was a powerful first-up performance as the gelding hadn’t raced since he placed sixth in the Listed Manfred Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield in February.
After the win The Handsome One’s regular jockey Dale Smith expressed his high opinion of the gelding, stating that the prestigious $1 million Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) held as the feature race on Emirates Stakes Day on the Saturday after the Melbourne Cup in November, would be a good option.
The Handsome One is trained by Cranbourne-based Greg Eurell, who will outline his plans for the gelding after he returns from his honeymoon, having gotten married on Monday while The Handsome One was winning at Flemington.
