Randwick-based trainer John O’Shea has two star stayers in preparation for a run in the 2010 Melbourne Cup this November with Jessicabeel and Zabrasive.
Both horses are two of the early favourites in the pre-nomination sports bet markets for the 2010 Melbourne Cup through Sportsbet, Jessicabeel paying $21 and Zabrasive following closely at $23 odds.
Four-year-old Zabeel mare Jessicabeel is ready to resume racing following her successful autumn that included back-to-back group wins in the Group 2 Chairman’s Handicap (2600m) and the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick.
Her last start win in the Sydney Cup proved Jessicabeel has what it takes to last the testing ‘two mile’ distance of the coveted Melbourne Cup, worth a record $6 million this year.
O’Shea is also targeting the 150th Melbourne Cup on November 2 with Group 1 Rosehill Guineas winner Zabrasive.
The three-year-old gelding, also by boom Kiwi sire Zabeel, is as yet untested over the 3,200m Cup distance.
His longest race to date was the 2,400m of the Group 1 AJC Derby in April where he finished an eye-catching fourth to Shoot Out.

Jessicabeel is expected to stay in Sydney during the early stages of the spring carnival, returning to the track in the Group 3 Tramway Handicap (1400m) at Randwick on September 4.
Zabrasive, on the other hand, will head straight to Melbourne and is likely to resume at Caulfield in the Group 2 Memsie Stakes (1400m) on August 28.
