August 2nd, 2010

With the 2010 spring racing season kicking off this weekend, the highly anticipated four-day Flemington Melbourne Cup Carnival is drawing closer with a number of star gallopers preparing for a run in the 2010 Emirates Stakes.

Held on the closing day of the Cup Carnival, Emirates Stakes Day is headlined by the $1 million Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m).

This year’s Emirates Stakes final field is shaping up as one of the best the feature spring mile race has seen in years.

We have already reported news on a classy list of horses have been named by their connections as possible 2010 Emirates Stakes contenders including seven-year-old Sniper’s Bullet, promising four-year-old The Handsome One, the Peter Moody-trained Doubtful Jack and last year’s third placegetter Gold Salute.

Other horses recently revealed as being aimed at this year’s Emirates Stakes include John O’Shea’s imported galloper Snappy Halo and Fifteen Carat.

Queensland-trained Show A Heart gelding Fifteen Carat had a brilliant few runs in the Sunshine State during the past month culminating with a win in the Listed Tattersall’s Mile (1600m) at Eagle Farm.

Trainer Howard Wilson has pencilled in both the Group 1 Epsom Handicap and then the Group 1 Emirates Stakes as the two primary spring targets for Fifteen Carat.

Nominations for the 2010 Emirates Stakes close on November 1 with the final field published here on November 4.
