Queensland trainer Gillian Heinrich is eyeing off the $500,000 Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at the 2010 Melbourne Cup Carnival for her Magic Millions winning filly Military Rose.
Three-year-old General Nediym filly Military Rose was originally set to run in the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) in Sydney before embarking on her spring engagements in Melbourne, but bad weather has forced Heinrich to send her stable star to Victoria early.
Wet conditions in Queensland have interrupted Military Rose’s preparation with barrier trials cancelled at both the Gold Coast and Doomben and so the filly will now go directly to Melbourne without a jump out at her home track.
Heinrich has named the 2010 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on October 30 as Military Rose’s major spring target.
The Coolmore Stud Stakes is one of the premier feature races on Victoria Derby Day, the first meeting of the famous four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival.
After a trail at Caulfield next week, Military Rose will resume racing in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 4.
Other races on the programme for the filly that you can back her in at Sportsbet include the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 24 and the Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on October 9.
In other news for the 2010 Melbourne Cup Carnival, the increase in prizemoney for the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m), also on Victoria Derby Day, to $1 million by the VRC has seen spring stars including 2010 Cox Plate favourite Shoot Out set to be entered for the race.
