A bumper nine-race programme at Flemington’s Victoria Derby Day on Saturday kicks off the highly anticipated Melbourne Cup Carnival for 2010, headlined by four Group 1 showdowns including the $500,000 Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).
A sprint feature for three-year-olds not suited to the testing 2500m distance of the Victoria Derby, the 2010 Coolmore Stud Stakes field has attracted 13 horses.
The clear favourite in the Luxbet Coolmore Stud Stakes betting markets is Star Witness, the Danny O’Brien-trained Group 1 winner paying $3.80 in from their opening quote of $4.20.
Star Witness is drawn ideally in barrier two and is a super consistent colt well suited to the Flemington track.
