Given a beautifully timed ride by jockey Craigt Williams, Mr Chard settled fourth and let Ace Acosta and favourite Skilled set the pace. Then with 300m to go Mr Chard moved up on the back of Skilled to take to the front, pulling away to leave the field behind and score a tidy two and a half length win over a fast finishing Goldstone with Condelago in third. Favourite Skilled finished fourth.
Flemington Race 2 The Lexus Stakes

- 3rd –Once Were Wild (Gai Waterhouse)
Maluckyday has burst into 2010 Melbourne Cup contention with a barnstorming win in the Lexus Stakes today, earning a free pass into the Cup field if connections choose to pay the final acceptance fee by 5pm today. After Gai Waterhouse’s stablemates Once Were Wild and Herculian Prince set the pace, Maluckyday stormed home on the straight to win by nearly three lengths from Lloyd William’s Linton and Once Were Wild hanging on for third.
Flemington Race 3 The Wakeful Stakes
- 1st –Brazilian Pulse (Michael Moroney)
- 2nd –Placement (Danny O’Brien)
- 3rd –Heartsareforlove (John P Thompson)
In a win for the favourite backers at Flemington today, classy filly Brazilian Pulse put in a brave run overcoming all odds to take out the Wakeful Stakes. Caught on the outside, Brazilian Pulse and jockey Craig Williams dug deep and cut through the field in the final few hundred metres to run down and beat a gallant Placement by 1.3 lengths with Heartsareforlove finishing a close third. Brazilian Pulse is now set to shorten into the clear favourite to win next Thursday’s Crown Oaks.
Flemington Race 4 Coolmore Studd Stakes
- 1st – Star Witness (Danny O’Brien)
- 2nd –Curtana (Peter G Moody)
- 3rd –Shrapnel (Mark Kavanagh)
Star Witness has completed the Blue Diamond Stakes / Coolmore Stud Stakes double today, putting in a terrific run to finish the winner in the Coolmore. After a poor jump, Star Witness showed their class to recover quickly and sat on the back of the leaders before bursting home. The sensational sprinter beat home Moody’s roughie Curtana by two lengths, with Shrapnel in third.
Flemington Race 5 Mackinnon Stakes
- 1st –So You Think (Bart Cummings)
- 2nd – Ginga Dude (Graeme Boyd)
- 3rd – Descarado (Gai Waterhouse)
So You Think has continued to build his superstar status with his fifth consecutive win, storming home to easily defeat a field of highly rated rivals in the Mackinnon. Settling well, So You Think was calm and ready to strike, opening it up with 200m to go and in a beautiful display ran home an emphatic 3.8 lengths ahead of Caulfield Cup winner and pacesetter Descarado, with a gallant Ginga Dude in third.

In a massive upset at Derby Day today, Joseph Pride’s Sacred Choice has flown home to win the Myer Classic by a massive four and a half lengths, outrunning hot favourite Typhoon Tracy who was no match for the winning Choisir mare in the Heavy conditions. After leading early, Hot Danish held on to finish third, but was beaten by over 10 lenghts.
Flemington Race 8 Salinger Stakes Results

Whitefrairs has handed the heavy Flemington track with ease today, cruising home ahead of a highly fancied field to win the Salinger Stakes nearly a length ahead of Peter Snowden’s Beaded with Response a gallant third.

Queensland galloper Poor Judge enjoyed a win in the closing Derby Day race at Flemington this afternoon, coming up through the middle of the field to take down the $3.80 favourite Demerit by just 0.3 of a length, with Centennial Park finishing in third.
