Ascot WATC Derby Field, Barriers & Weight 2011

March 29th, 2011

The 2011 WATC Derby Field will surely excite plenty of people at Ascot Racecourse with a host of their top local talent and a little bit of interstate success thrown into the mix as well.

The WATC Derby is a Group 1 event for three-year-olds and worth half a million in prize money.

The race is for up and coming stayers, run over a decent trip of 2400m.

The top liner and main draw card for this race is undoubtedly Playing God with a rating of 110, far away from his closest rival Dreamaway at 88.

The colt has accrued more than $860,000 in prize money and has won six of 12 starts.

In addition he has placed this preparation in both the Australian Cup and the Australian Guineas.

One thing which hasn’t gone his way of late is barrier draws, (20 in the Australian Cup) and that’s continued again after getting marble 14 for the WATC Derby.

Dreamaway won’t be able to seize on that too much though after only going one better with barrier 13.

This filly has been incredible of late winning its last four on the trot and has the ability to go forward or sit back off the pace.

With more luck in the barrier draw was Rio Dane taking prime position on the fence.

Connections are more than happy with what he has already achieved this preparation but with he from he’s in we wouldn’t be ruling out further success as well.

Discovers finished one place behind Playing God last start but will have barrier five and probably license to be ridden a bit more aggressively.
