Foxwedge Draws Ideal Barrier For 2011 Golden Slipper

March 29th, 2011

Foxwedge is amongst the early favourites for the 2011 Golden Slipper which will be run as part of a thrilling nine-card program at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday April 2, 2011.

The two-year-old Fastnet Rocket colt was defeated for the first time in his third race start in the 2011 Todman Stakes last start, finishing third behind Smart Missile and Sepoy.

Foxwedge drew barrier 11 in the 2011 Golden Slipper barrier draw today, and his trainer, John O’Shea, is over the moon with his gate.

“We think it’s an ideal draw with plenty of speed on the outside, so we’ll just come across with them and should be able to get a lovely run from there,” O’Shea said.

Despite being beaten in the Todman Stakes last start, John O’Shea is confident that his colt can find that little bit extra for Saturday’s Golden Slipper.

“He’s come to a peak third-up. We’ve put a set of blinkers on him to sharpen him up, to just find that extra half-length and it appears it’s made an improvement in him,” O’Shea said.

“He’s going along well.”

Foxwedge will be ridden by jockey Nash Rawiller in the $3.5 million Golden Slipper this weekend.
