The Mick Price trained Aloha will be looking to make it six straight wins when she lines up as favourite in the 2011 George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.
The 2011 George Ryder will be the first time in its six run unbeaten streak that Aloha will tackle the colts and geldings under weight for age conditions.
Aloha returned a career high timeform rating of 117 in the Coolmore Classic at Rosehill last start where she easily disposed of highly rated fillies Jersey Lilly and Melito.
Rated a $5.50 favourite for the 2011 George Ryder Stakes, Aloha was Group 1 winner number 72 for champion jockey Glen Boss at its last start.
“She always had Group 1 potential, I knew from the first time I rode her one morning two years ago,” said Boss.
“Full credit to Mick Price, he has done an amazing job getting this mare back to her full potential,” continued Boss.
Aloha is the winner of 8 from 17 starts, with the period Boss was talking about coming in spring last year when she failed in three consecutive starts.
“She lost her way there for a little bit but Mick knew what he was dealing with. She has had her issues but he coaxed her back into form,” said Boss.
Aloha’s form has seen Mick Price do a backflip on his original race plans.
Price was quoted as saying “the Queen of the Turf is the logical option for her”, however it is believed the fact that More Joyous will start in the Queen of the Turf, and the fact that a weight for age win would greatly increase her value as a broodmare led Price to enter her in the 2011 George Ryder Stakes.
Other fancied runners for the 2011 George Ryder Stakes include Triple Elegance ($7.00), Ilovethiscity ($8.00) and Dao Dao ($9.00). Last year’s winner Danleigh is quoted at $11.00.
