With the 2011 Golden Slipper ready to run this Saturday April 2, 2011, there is much excitement surrounding the performances of Slipper hopeful Elite Falls.
The More Than Ready filly won the well-known lead-up race for fillies to the $3.5 million Golden Slipper; the Group 2 Reisling Stakes.
However, despite now being one of the 2011 Golden Slipper favourites, Elite Fall’s trainer, John O’Shea, didn’t have the confidence that his filly would perform prior to the race.
“She’s not flash on the track and I thought she was just behind the A-graders,” O’Shea said.
”I brought her back early to try and win the Widden and Sweet Embrace with her to get some black type but she has proved me wrong.”
Now that Elite Falls has proved that she means business, she has been strongly backed in the 2011 Golden Slipper betting markets, and is currently paying odds of $11 at Luxbet.
Vinery Stud manager, Adam White, was over the moon with Elite Fall’s Riesling Stakes performance last start, and believes the filly is a big chance of winning the Group 1 Golden Slipper.
“That was the perfect Slipper trial,’ said Mr White.
‘It was 1200m around Rosehill – exactly the same conditions she will encounter on Slipper day.”
Mr White feels that Elite Falls is ideally suited to the tempo of a race such as the 2011 Golden Slipper.
“You can see by the way she races that she will really appreciate a high pressure race like the Slipper always is.”
Elite Falls will be ridden by jockey Jim Cassidy in this Saturday’s Slipper and she will jump from barrier 16.
