More Joyous Heads 2011 Queen Of The Turf Final Field – Golden Slipper Day

March 30th, 2011

The final field for the 2011 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m) has been announced today for the race that will run as part of Golden Slipper Day this Saturday April 2, 2011.

Only 7 horses have accepted for the 17 horse capacity field, with most trainers opting to steer clear of More Joyous, who heads the line-up.

More Joyous will attempt to continue her unbeaten preparation with a win in the 2011 Queen Of The Turf Stakes this Saturday.

The More Than Ready mare has won 13 of her 17 starts and her trainer, Gai Waterhouse, has spoken openly of her belief that the four-year-old mare will remain unbeaten throughout her entire autumn campaign.

More Joyous will run in the 2011 Queen Of The Turf Stakes on her way to the $1.5 million Doncaster Handicap at Randwick on April 16, 2011.

More Joyous has drawn barrier 2 in the $400,000 Queen Of The Turf Stakes and will be ridden by jockey Nash Rawiller.

Also lining up for a start in this weekend’s Queen Of The Turf Stakes will be the talented Melito.

Melito finished third behind Aloha and Jersey Lily in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic last start and will be looking for her second Group win of her preparation, after winning the Group 2 Apollo Stakes first-up on February 19, 2011.

The four-year-old Redoute’s Choice mare has won five of her 23 starts has a win percentage of 22%.

Melito will jump from barrier four in the 2011 Queen Of The Turf Stakes and will be ridden by jockey Hugh Bowman.

Included in the talented, albeit small, 2011 Queen Of The Turf Stakes final field is Les Bridge’s Jersey Lily.

Jersey Lily has been in impressive form of late, falling outside the first four only once since September, 2009.

The Catbird mare finished second in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic behind More Joyous last start and will be hoping she can go one better when they face off again in the 2011 Queen Of The Turf Stakes.

Jersey Lily will jump from gate five and will be ridden by jockey Tim Clark.

Also included in the impressive Queen Of The Turf Stakes line-up are Peter Moody’s Set For Fame, Grahame Begg’s Palacio De Crystal, Gai Waterhouse’s Montana Flyer and John Thompson’s Happy Hippy.
