Nash Rawiller remains confident that Caulfield Cup winner Descarado will turn the tables on Zavite and Maluckyday in the BMW Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.
Rawiller, who rode Zavite to the 2009 Launceston and Adelaide Cups, looked to make a sustained run on Descarado in the Ranvet, and looked the winner until Zavite kicked back on the inside to win.
“I know Zavite and I was concerned he had too soft a run in front,” said Rawiller.
However the run over a tough 2000m on a wet track should see Descarado in prime condition going into the BMW Stakes.
“My bloke needed that hit-out and going up to the 2400m this week, things will be different,” said a confident Rawiller.
It appears as if there will be genuine pace in the race, which always makes for a level playing field, especially at Rosehill.
Zavite was able to jog in front in the Ranvet, however with the addition of on genuine on pace runners Ginga Dude and Mourayan, the 2011 BMW is sure to be run at a true pace.
Descarado remains second elect in the 2011 BMW at $3.60, with Maluckyday from the Hawkes team currently a $2.60 top pick.
After winning the Ranvet at 100-1 and running second in the BMW Stakes last year the Anthony Cummings trained Zavite is $14 chance.
“I’m as happy as I was this time last year and it won’t be such an upset if we wins this time round,” said Cummings of his eight year old charge.
