March 30th, 2011

The 2011 BMW Stakes at Rosehill promises to be to be a tough race for punters with the field littered with class. While the John Hawks trained Maluckyday opened favourite, there has been solid support for the Gai Waterhouse trained Descarado and the Robert Hickmott trained Linton. We take a look at the 2011 BMW Stakes field and all the latest betting moves and updated odds.

1. Zavite
The Anthony Cummnigs trained eight year old won the Ranvet last start, beating home BMW favourites Maluckyday and Descarado. Finished second in the race last year despite travelling three wide without cover for the entire trip.

2011 BMW Stakes Odds: $13.00

2. Hawk Island
Chris Waller has this six year old gelding in career best form. Won the Parramatta Cup at Rosehill before running an impressive third in the Ranvet. Has not won at the distance in four attempts.

2011 BMW Stakes Odds: $15.00

3. Illustrious Blue
Ridden upside down in the Ranvet and never stood a chance. Has not found best form since coming to Australia.

2011 BMW Stakes Odds: $18.00

4. Ginga Dude
Has failed to recapture the form that saw him win the David Jones Cup in the spring. Will more than likely be ridden forward.

2011 BMW Stakes Odds: $26.00

5. Mourayan
Former Irish galloper who has showed glimpses of form with a second in last years Metropolitan and more recently fourth in Manion Cup over the BMW track and distance. Will go forward and will be suited by rain.

2011 BMW Stakes Odds: $41.00

6. Descarado
Looked all but the winner in the Ranvet before being overhauled by Zavite. Caulfield Cup winner who Gai Waterhouse set for this race some time ago.

2011 BMW Stakes Odds: $3.60

7. Linton
Lloyd Williams owned four year old who has shown a stack of ability. Winner of the Herbert Power in the spring and was a last start second behind Shocking in the Australian Cup.

2011 BMW Stakes Odds: $6.00

8. Maluckyday
First up effort in the Chipping Norton was good, but struggled for pace in the early part of the Ranvet before coming home strongly. Owned and trained in the same interests as the great Might and Power. Has been favourite for this race since markets opened.

2011 BMW Stakes Odds: $2.70

9. Cedarberg
Has been a winner over 2400m in the past but it was in much lower grade. Gets Damian Oliver which is a plus but would need to massively improve on exposed form.

2011 BMW Stakes Odds: $26.00

10. Extra Zero
Has won just 2 of 22 starts and has not been at his best since returning from a spell. Will need to produce career best form to be figuring in the finish.

2011 BMW Stakes Odds: $51.00

11. Laristan
Highly rated four year old from the David Hayes camp. Originally bought to Australia from France with races like this in mind. Did win over the 2400m whilst still in France. Trainer David Hayes has massive raps on this horse.

2011 BMW Stakes Odds: $16.00
