The Graham Begg trained Ilovethiscity has been the best backed runner in early George Ryder Stakes betting.
Following impressive wins in the Hobartville Stakes and Randwick Guineas, Ilovethiscity will be looking to emulate the feats of Haradasun (2007) and Weekend Hussler (2008), by winning the weight for age race as a three year old.
Ilovethiscity opened at $8, however following steady support after the markets opened his price has been trimmed to $6.50 with punters warming to the three year old who will take on the older horses for the first time.
“There has to be a big query about the three year old against the older horses but he’s going into it in the right sort of form,” said Begg.
“He’s ticked all the boxes by winning the right races, but he has to go to another level, but we think he can be competitive,” continued Begg.
Ilovethiscity worked over the 1100m at Randwick on Tuesday morning, cantering the last 600m in 39.2 seconds, producing a final 200m of 12.3 seconds.
“He’s worked very well, and he’s runs at Rosehill have been second to none,” said Begg.
Ilovethiscity has raced at Rosehill four times for a win and two minor placing’s.
Brenton Avdulla will again partner Ilovethiscity after steering the horse to back to back Group wins.
The Mick Price trained Aloha remains favourite for the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes, which will be run as race six on 2011 Golden Slipper day.
Aloha is currently priced at $5.50, while there has also been support for Triple Elegance ($7.00), Dao Dao ($9.00) and last year’s winner Danleigh who is being quoted at $11.00
