West Australian trainer Simon Miller still managed to win the Karrakatta Plate after a horrible barrier draw for his stable and he’ll need a similar performance this weekend in the Group 3 WA Sires Produce Stakes.
Night War managed to win the Karrakatta plate in a tremendous run from barrier 13 with his other runner Single Spice placing a gallant fourth from gate 15.
Night War went straight to the paddock after the win but for Single Spice a triumph in the $200,000 Sires Produce Stakes will have to come from barrier 13.
“It is frustrating to keep drawing bad barriers,” Miller said.
“I have had three two-year-olds step out and despite the run of bad draws, Night War finished second in the Magic Millions and won the Karrakatta.
“Single Spice won the Supremacy and ran fourth in the Karrakatta and Cat Five finished third in the Perth Stakes.”
In the current betting markets Single Spice is third in the line of betting at around $5.50.
In front of him are Bliss Street at $3.50 and the favourite Benny’s Halo at $3.00.
Geraldton Cup winning jockey Peter Knuckey will retain the ride aboard Single Spice for the second feature event on WATC Derby Day at Ascot Racecourse.
