Jockey Thinks Satin Shoes Is Best Winning Chance In 2011 Golden Slipper

April 1st, 2011

While the colts are favoured in the 2011 Golden Slipper betting markets, those associated with Slipper hopeful Satin Shoes are not convinced that will be the case when the race is run at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday April 2, 2011.

Hugh Bowman, who has the ride on Satin Shoes in the $3.5 million Slipper, is over the moon to have the chance to ride such a quality horse.

“This is as good a ride as I’ve had in the Slipper and I think she can go really well,” Bowman said.

Bowman is extremely happy at the way Satin Shoes’ preparation is going for the big race, and feels she is in her best form.

“Her work was outstanding,” Bowman said.

“She is a big horse and I did a bit more on her and she had a nice little blow afterwards.”

Another member of the Satin Shoes camp that is confident that she will put in the performance of her life in Saturday’s Golden Slipper is her trainer Clarry Conners.

“She’s terrific, I couldn’t be happier,” Conners said.

With an optimum barrier draw (2) for the Group 1 race, the only real worry that Conners has is that the weather will deal them a cruel blow.

“The only thing I’m scared of is the rain, I’m not scared of the other horses,” Conners said.

“My main opposition is the weather. Everything else is in order, barrier two is ideal, we’ve got a great jockey, now it’s up to the man above.”

While many punters lost faith in the Flying Spur filly after she suffered her first defeat behind Elite Falls in the $300,000 Riesling Stakes last start, her trainer is mindful that all horses progress differently.

“All horses are individuals, you treat them all differently,” he said.

“It’s all just up to the individual horse and this year I’ve got an exceptional filly.”

Satin Shoes is currently the equal fourth favourite for Saturday’s Golden Slipper and is paying odds of $11 at Luxbet.
