More Joyous In Best Form To Tackle 2011 Queen Of The Turf Stakes Field

April 1st, 2011

More Joyous will headline a brilliant Queen Of The Turf Stakes field when it runs as part of Rosehill Garden’s Golden Slipper Day this Saturday April 2, 2011.

The Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes has attracted seven of the country’s best fillies and mares, all vying for a share in the $400,000 prize money on offer.

The 1500m Queen Of The Turf Stakes field will feature More Joyous as she attempts to win her 14th race from just 18 runs.

A win in the 2011 Queen Of The Turf Stakes will give the classy More Than Ready mare her fourth straight Group victory.

Gai Waterhouse, who trains More Joyous, counts herself lucky to have such a talented horse in her stables.

“She is getting right up there with the best horses I’ve trained,” Waterhouse said.

Mrs Waterhouse believes that we haven’t seen all of what More Joyous is cable of yet, and her best is still to come.

“She may well be the best but she still has so much of her career in front of her,” she said.

The champion Sydney trainer is adamant that More Joyous will not be retired as a brood mare anytime in the near future.

“She’s still only lightly raced and [owner] John Singleton has no plans to retire her for a couple of years,” Mrs Waterhouse said.

“More Joyous can continue to improve because she has only just matured physically and is a much stronger mare than she was even last spring.”

The 2011 Queen Of The Turf Stakes will run as Race 3 at 1.05pm (AEDST) on Golden Slipper Day this Saturday.

2011 Queen Of The Turf Stakes Field & Form

#1 More Joyous

Career: 17-13-0-1

4th race this prep

More Joyous has won 11 of her last 12 race starts and put in an absolutely effortless run to win last start. She has a prime barrier (2) and appears unbeatable here.

#2 Melito

Career: 23-5-8-4

4th race this prep

Melito appears to be second best here. She was allocated 59.5 kilograms in the Coolmore Classic last start and still was able to place.

#3 Set For Fame

Career: 16-5-3-1

3rd race this prep

Set For Fame has a difficult run from the outside gate last start and did well to finish third. She is sure to be a strong finisher here.

#4 Palacio De Cristal

Career: 26-5-1-2

3rd race this prep

Palacio De Cristal is a very classy performer on a dry track but has trouble with her starts. She has missed the kick in 19 of her 26 races. She needs the rain to hold off for her to do any good.

#5 Jersey Lily

Career: 21-4-6-5

5th race this prep

Jersey Lily is in the best form of her career at the moment and she has only failed to place once out of six runs on this track. Finished a good second last start in the Coolmore Classic, however, she carries an extra 4.5 kilograms here which could hinder her chances.

#6 Montana Flyer

Career: 26-4-4-3

4th race this prep

Montana Flyer is likely to be outclassed here. She will most likely lead from early on but whether she will run on is debatable.

#7 Happy Hippy

Career: 23-3-3-4

4th race this prep

Happy Hippy was caught out wide last start after jumping from barrier 11 and was forced to go back to last. She seems to be in winning form, but probably not against this company.
