Sydney’s leading lady Gai Waterhouse goes into the 2011 Golden Slipper day with a host of in form runners and live chances in the days Group Ones.
Certainly the most well supported of her runners will be super-mare More Joyous who will line up in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes.
More Joyous has won 11 of her last 12 races and will go into the Vinery Stud Stakes at the short odds of $1.25.
“She’s is getting right up there with the best horses I’ve trained,” said Waterhouse, who has trained legends of the track including Nothin’ Leica Dane and All Our Mob.
While punters will have to wait until race three to see More Joyous perform, Waterhouse has live chances throughout the day starting with Satirical Boy in the first.
Satirical Boy is a two year old gelding by Fusaichi Pegasus who won impressively on debut at Hawkesbury. Satirical Boy will be ridden by Nash Rawiller and is currently ranked a $7.00 chance.
Fast Clip is another of the Waterhouse runners with a great chance on Golden Slipper day 2011. The three year old gelding will line up in the Tulloch Stakes over 2000m and is currently a $6.00 chance.
Gai’s next big hope will be Descarado in the Group 1 BMW Stakes. After finishing second to Zavite in the Ranvet, Waterhouse believes the horse is at its peak and will be bringing her more Group 1 success.
“He’s improved so much since the Ranvet. I can’t tell you how delighted I am with him.
“They won’t beat him this time,” said Waterhouse.
Waterhouse will also line up one of her stable stars, Theseo, in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes over 1500m.
Theseo is yet to fire this campaign however he is a proven Group 1 performer and cannot be written off at the odds of $17.00.
In the feature event of day, the 2011 Golden Slipper, Waterhouse will start with Shared Reflections, who will attempt to match the feats of last year’s Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lilly by winning the Sweet Embrace Stakes and the Golden Slipper in the same year.
“This filly is coming along in leaps and bounds and I feel will be really suited in a race like the Golden Slipper,” said Waterhouse.
Shared Reflections will be ridden by Damien Oliver and is currently priced at $17.00
King Lionheart, who has only missed a place in once in nine career starts will line up for Waterhouse in the Queens Cup and is currently ranked a $9.00 chance.
And in the last event of the day Waterhouse will again combine with Nash Rawiller on Swift Alliance.
Although Swift Alliance failed last time in, he has a tremendous record second up, and will start a $4.40 equal favourite in the last.
