Sepoy has remained as favourite for the 2011 Golden Slipper despite his Group 2 Todman Stakes defeat at Rosehill on March 19, 2011.
The Elusive Quality colt is currently the $3.50 favourite at Luxbet, ahead of Smart Missile paying $4.60 and Foxwedge paying $8.
“We’ve taken bets including $15,000 and $10,000 at $3.50 during Saturday morning after the favourite had been ignored by punters in the days leading up to the race,” said Sportingbet CEO Manager Michael Sullivan.
Sepoy’s favouritism has been helped by the state of the track, which has now been upgraded to a Dead 5 this morning and is likely to settle as a Dead 4 by the time the $3.5 million Golden Slipper is run at 4.05pm (AEDST).
“A drying track is right up Sepoy’s alley and punters seem to have re-assessed the race at the last minute,” Mr Sullivan said.
Sepoy was beaten in his last start by Anthony Cummings’ Smart Missile in the rain and on a wet track.
The talented young colt will jump from barrier nine in the 1200m Golden Slipper and will be ridden by regular jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
The 2011 Golden Slipper will run as Race 7 on Golden Slipper Day today and is scheduled to jump at 4.05pm (AEDST).
