Danleigh Continues to Firm in George Ryder Stakes Betting

April 2nd, 2011

The Chris Waller trained Danleigh has been one of the best backed runners for the 2011 Golden Slipper day.

Danleigh, who will start in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes, has been trimmed from $13.00 when markets opened to just $7.00, with punters rallying around the horse that won the race last year.

Even Chris Waller, who has three runners in the race is leaning towards Danleigh who is the winner of four Group Ones.

“To put it simply, this is Danleigh’s race. Triple Elegance’s is in a fortnight (Doncaster) and Rangirangdoo is still two runs away from being his best,” said Waller.

This is despite the fact that Danleigh was beaten by eight lengths in a resent barrier trial by stable mate Triple Elegance.

Triple Elegance puts everything into his gallops, whereas Danleigh is a cool customer who just does what he has to do,” said Waller.

Danleigh has followed the same preparation that saw him win the George Ryder last year. He will also be ridden by Hugh Bowman again.

Last year he was third in the Chipping Norton Stakes before stepping out in the George Ryder. This year he won the Chipping Norton, meaning the horse is in top condition.

“Danleigh is very well and has had a similar preparation to last year,” said Waller.

Others to attract support in George Ryder Stakes betting are Triple Elegance ($7.00), Dao Dao ($9.00) and Ilovethiscity ($8.00). Aloha remains favourite ($5.00) however the mare has been on the drift since betting opened.
