Maluckyday Retains Favouritism In 2011 The BMW Betting

April 2nd, 2011

The 2011 The BMW is set to run as Race 5 today on Rosehill Garden’s Golden Slipper Day, and punters have shown their unwavering support for favourites Maluckyday and Descarado.

Maluckyday opened as $3 favourite this morning, easing out from his original opening price of $2.70.

The Zabeel gelding has finished fourth in his last two races this preparation and appears primed to take out his first win of his autumn campaign in the $2.25 million The BMW.

Sportingbet Australia CEO, Michael Sullivan, has found that the money is rolling in for Maluckyday.

“We had one punter back him to take out over $20,000 and there has been a string of smaller bets too,” Mr Sullivan said.

Mr Sullivan has also seen a great deal of support for the second favourite, Descarado.

“Descarado was a nice return as well while a lot of the chances from the Australian Cup will also head to Sydney to give him plenty of competition,” he said.

Despite the support for the two favourite, money is still coming in for the roughies in the race, including Pat Carey’s Cedarberg.

“It doesn’t look like being the strongest BMW in history,” said Mr Sullivan.

“While Cedarberg would need to find something on his Australian Cup run the money certainly suggests he can.”

The BMW is due to run in Race 5 at Rosehill Gardens today and is set to jump at 2.25pm (AEDST).
