The Clarry Conners trained Satin Shoes continues to garner support in 2011 Golden Slipper betting
The classy two year old filly has been backed from $12.00 when betting opened to be a $9.00 chance on the morning of the race.
Clarry Conners has won the Slipper four times, and he goes into this years with a top filly who has only tasted defeat once in her career, finishing second behind Elite Falls in the Reisling.
Jockey Hugh Bowman is also brimming with confidence going into the world’s richest two year old race.
“Her work has been outstanding. She is a big horse and I did a bit more on her and she had a nice little blow afterwards,” said Bowman.
“This is as good a ride as I’ve had in a Slipper and I think she can go really well,” continued Bowman, who’s best result in a Golden Slipper was fourth on the Gai Waterhouse trained Meurice in 2007.
Clarry Conners echoed the thoughts of Bowman, reiterating that his horse was in top condition and is in with a real chance in the Slipper.
“She’s terrific, I couldn’t be happier. I’m not scared of the other horses,” said Conners.
“My main opposition is the weather. Everything else is in order. Barrier two is ideal, we’ve got a great jockey. Now it’s up to the man upstairs,” said Conners.
Prior to stepping out in the Reisling Satin Shoes was the winner of three consecutive races including the listed Widden Stakes and Silver Slipper.
Sepoy remains favourite for the 2011 Golden Slipper at $3.40, while the Anthony Cummings trained Smart Missile is second elect at $4.60. Satin Shoes is the shortest price of any of the fillies in the race.
