Foot Abscess Puts Absolutelyawesome Out Of 2011 AJC Australian Derby

April 5th, 2011

Absolutelyawesome has been forced to withdraw from the running of the 2011 AJC Australian Derby this Saturday April 9, 2011.

The three-year-old gelding did not accept for the $1.5 million race after failing to recover from a foot abscess.

Absolutelyawesome’s trainer, Michael Moroney, had intended to run the gelding with blinkers on in order to help him turn his performance around after a disappointing eighth place finish in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas last start.

Michael Moroney believes that the Zenno Rob Roy gelding will now have to miss the entire remaining part of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

“That’s the end of his autumn I’d say,” said Moroney.

Absolutelyawesome has had seven starts across his career and has only managed to win his maiden run.

The three-year-old has raced in five Stakes-level races during his short career, however, has been unable to finish in the placings once.

Michael Moroney will now have no runners in the 2011 AJC Australian Derby field, which included John Bary’s Jimmy Choux and Peter Moody’s Anacheeva.
