Hopes To Retrieve Form In 2011 AJC Australian Derby

Retrieve will take to the track for the Group 1 AJC Australian Derby at Randwick Racecourse this Saturday April 9, 2011, in an attempt to make up for his disappointing last start.

The three-year-old colt finished an unexpected sixth in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes last start, despite starting as the overwhelming favourite.

Peter Snowden was more than surprised when Retrieve failed to perform in the $175,000 Tulloch Stakes.

“Talk about the highs and lows of racing, I thought he was a certainty,” Snowden said.

The trainer admits that while it wasn’t the best run, Retrieve will be back better than ever in the $1.5 million AJC Australian Derby.

“In hindsight we probably went in with a game plan that wasn’t on the mark,” Snowden said.

“The horse ended up in the worst place possible but he has pulled up in excellent condition and he certainly hasn’t taken any harm from the run.”

Peter Snowden has learnt a lot from Retrieve’s last run and has a more suited plan of attack this time around.

“We’ll be more aggressive in the Derby,” Snowden said.

“He’s definitely not a sit-and-sprint type of horse.”

Retrieve is currently the $6.50 second favourite for the AJC Australian Derby at Luxbet.
