2011 AJC Australian Derby Hopes Fade For He’s Remarkable

April 6th, 2011

Roger James is not confident about the chances of his horse He’s Remarkable in the Group 1 AJC Australian Derby this Saturday April 9, 2011.

The trainer feels that their wide barrier draw of 13, coupled with the predicted wet track, is not a suitable combination for his three-year-old colt.

Roger James said that He’s Remarkable has shown his dislike for wet tracks in the past.

“He doesn’t have the confidence to really hit out on them,” James said.

Despite the possibility of a slow rated track, James is happy with He’s Remarkable’s preparation coming into Saturday’s $1.5 million AJC Australian Derby.

“The mile and a half will suit him down to the ground,” James said.

“He’s come through well and I think he’s in tip top order going into the race.”

He’s Remarkable finished second to the 2011 AJC Australian Derby race favourite Jimmy Choux in the Group 1 New Zealand Guineas on November 6, 2010, by just a long neck.

Even though He’s Remarkable has finished so close to Jimmy Choux in the past, James is realistic about his horse’s chances in the 2011 AJC Australian Derby.

“He just keeps doing it jimmy choux,” James said.

“He’s the benchmark for (staying) three-year-olds in Australasia.”

The 2011 AJC Australian Derby will run as Race 7 this Saturday and is due to jump at 3.40pm (AEST).
