Black Caviar Heads 2011 TJ Smith Stakes Form & Betting

April 8th, 2011

Black Caviar will be the star of the 2011 TJ Smith Stakes when it runs at Randwick tomorrow April 9, 2011, and she has settled into overwhelming favouritism in the betting markets.

The unbeaten mare is paying odds of $1.22 to win her 12th race start at Luxbet, and Luxbet’s leading bookmaker, Paul Vincent, believes she is unbeatable.

“The Black Caviar show rolls into Sydney to make it 12 wins from 12 starts,” Mr Vincent said.

“She has trounced many of her rivals previously and at WFA they just can’t beat her.”

The current second favourite for the race is John McNair’s Hay List, who won the Group 2 Challenge Stakes at Warwick Farm last start.

Hay List, who has finished behind Black Caviar in their last two meetings, is paying odds of $14 to upstage the superstar mare.

Shoot Out and Crystal Lily are both paying odds of $17 at Luxbet, and Mr Vincent feels that they are more than generous odds for Crystal Lily.

“Crystal Lily has been runner up to the great mare at her last two starts & looks set for that to continue,” he said.

The 2011 TJ Smith Stakes is scheduled to jump as Race 5 at 2.20pm (AEST) on tomorrow’s AJC Australian Derby Day.

2011 TJ Smith Stakes Form

#1 Hay List

  • Career: 17-13-2-0
  • 3rd race this prep
  • Hay List has only been defeated four times during his career, and two of those times have been by Black Caviar. Hay List will have blinkers off here and winkers on. He still seems a class below Black Caviar.

#2 Shoot Out

  • Career: 19-7-2-3
  • 1st-up
  • Shoot Out won the AJC Australian Derby this day last year. He is unbeaten at this track and has a solid first-up record. Definitely a place chance.

#7 Black Caviar

  • Career: 11-11-0-0
  • 4th race this prep
  • While Black Caviar is up against eight other Group 1 winners in this talented field, she has also proved time and time again that she is miles better than them. Unless there is a serious problem here then she will win again.

#11 Crystal Lily

  • Career: 12-4-4-1
  • 4th race this prep
  • Crystal Lily has finished second to Black Caviar in her last two race starts and is sure to put up a good fight again here.
