The 2011 Chairman’s Handicap will jump as Race #3 on the card of Australian derby day at Randwick Racecourse this Saturday April 9th.
The Chairman’s Handicap is a 2600m Group 2 and has attracted a field of 17 good quality runners.
Current favourite according to the Luxbet.com odds is Galizani which is steady on the $5.50 opening price.
It’s one of three runners for John P Thompson but easily his best chance with Saint Encosta and Count Encosta both out towards $20.
Second favourite in the race is Gai Waterhouse’s Older Than Time which looks a great chance at $7.00.
She’s also the bookies pick with Luxbet.com’s Paul Vincent claiming she’s the one to beat.
“In a race where no horse can lay claim to a perfect lead up Older Than Time is the exception,” Vincent said.
“She’s won four in a row this year and while the distance is a query, the heart and talent of the horse certainly isn’t and you know Gai will have her prepared.”
Third in betting is Anudjawun which has been aided by a great barrier draw and unmoved from an opening $8.00 quote.
One point further back at $9.00 is Showcause which is expected to come in on race day with plenty of punters picking her in their exotic bets.
Speed Gifted opened at $10 but has drifted two points almost immediately out to $12 but will come in again if the likelihood of rain increases.
Also on the $12 fixed price is Waterhouse’s second runner Once Were Wild and the Melbourne Cup Runner C’est La Guerre.
Earlier in the week the form guide gave a decent chance to Cyber Crime from barrier two and in the current market a $41 fixed price seems incredibly generous.
The only horse at longer odds is the 100 to 1 chance The Patriot.
The 2011 Chairman’s Handicap is scheduled to run at Royal Randwick 12:40pm local time.
