Jimmy Choux, who won the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas last start, has settled into a price of $2.35 at Luxbet, after originally opening at $2.25.
The three-year-old Thorn Park colt is looking to win his sixth race in a row today and appears to be in unstoppable form ahead of the 2011 AJC Australian Derby.
Sportingbet CEO, Michael Sullivan, has found a large amount of money has been coming in for Jimmy Choux, especially in the futures markets.
“…We are seeing bet after bet placed on the Black Caviar and Jimmy Choux double,” Mr Sullivan said.
“Plenty of punters are already on Jimmy Choux after taking $9.00 about him after he won the NZ Derby.”
Mr Sullivan believes that Jimmy Choux will shorten in price considerably before the race is run.
“I have no doubt punters will step into Jimmy in a big way…given the way he won the Rosehill Guineas,” he said.
Shamrocker is currently second favourite in the 2011 AJC Australian Derby betting, paying odds of $6, while third favourite Retrieve has drifted out to odds of $7.50 after originally opening at Luxbet at $6.50.
The big money has come for the outsider; He’s Remarkable, who has firmed in from odds of $21 into odds of $18.
“We took a bet of $2000 each way at $21 and then a bet of $4000 each way at $19 and a series of smaller bets as he shortened up…,” Mr Sullivan said.
“He did drift a little after drawing barrier 13 and talk the rain around Sydney wouldn’t help him but punters are having none of it and have stepped in.”
The 2011 AJC Australian Derby is due to jump at 3.40pm (AEST) as Race 7 on AJC Australian Derby Day.
