Anise won the race by a whisker ahead of second-place-getter Queenian, producing a successful head bob on the line to take out her first Group victory of her young career.
The two-year-old filly jumped from barrier seven and was caught wide throughout a great majority of the $125,000 Kindergarten Stakes.
The favourite for the race, Hot Snitzel, ran on well in the later stages of the race to finish in third place, while Fox, who had lead the field until the home turn, ran home for fourth.
Anise won the 2011 Kindergarten Stakes in a time of 1 minute and 4.61 seconds, and paid odds of $6.40 at Luxbet.
Peter Snowden was relieved that his filly was finally able to produce a win after delivering some disappointing performances and will most likely now send her for a spell.
“She’ll probably go out now,” Snowden said.
“I thought she would win at Warwick Farm and she got beat and her run at Rosehill was very disappointing.”
While Snowden wasn’t completely happy with Anise’s run today, he was appreciative to have come out on top.
“She seemed to take forever to get going,” Snowden said.
“She had to fight hard to get there but she did and that’s the main thing.”
Today’s win in the $175,000 Kindergarten Stakes takes Anise’s prize money earnings to a total of $152,000.
