The Shorts 2011 carries a maximum field of 14 horses however we won’t be getting that many with just 13 in the nominations ahead of the final field announcement tomorrow.
That being said there are still a number of horses which have proven quality so it’ll be anything but a non event with a competitive race still assured.
As is the case with Group rated events in Sydney Chris Waller seems to have his finger in every pie and on this occasion he’ll have two.
The number one entry Danleigh is set to make his return to the track after a long spell while Albert The Fat will be doing the same after transferring from Queensland.
Waller is using the race to get a sighting on both horses at the start of the spring and their performances will dictate just which way they’re headed later on in the carnival.
If they are to win first up over the 1200m though they’ll have plenty of work to do with other trainers far from scared off by Waller.
Decision Time will have his second start to the prep after a first up win two weeks back for Clarry Conners.
Peter Snowden is well represented as well, he saddles up Soul in addition to the talented yet unlucky gelding Skytrain.
Others of note in the race include Winter King for David Payne, Zaratone for Nick olive and Top Drop, a nice looking type from Gerald Ryan.
