Descarado Withdrawn From 2011 Cox Plate Due To Injury

October 20th, 2011

Gai Waterhouse’s Descarado has been scratched from the 2011 Cox Plate this Saturday October 22, 2011, due to a leg injury.

The five-year-old gelding suffered swelling and grade one lameness to his near fore leg and there was not enough time before Saturday’s race to fix the problem.

Descarado appeared in great form ahead of his scheduled Caulfield Cup appearance after winning the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes earlier this month by almost two lengths.

Racing Victoria’s chief steward Terry Bailey informed the public of Descarado’s withdrawal earlier today.

“The stable just advised us that they will be supplying a veterinary certificate to say that the horse isn’t fit to run on Saturday, so at least everyone knows where they are heading now,” Bailey said.

Waterhouse expects Descarado to continue to be a major player in the spring carnival, with his next start now likely to be in the Mackinnon Stakes 2011 on October 29, 2011.
