Atomic Force Makes Spring Debut In Carlyon Stakes

August 21st, 2012

Atomic Force will line up in the Listed Carlyon Stakes at Moonee Valley racecourse this Saturday August 25, 2012, for his first start of the spring.

The Danehill Dancer gelding is not expected to be at his best for the 1,000 metre race, however, is sure to make himself known in the race.

Atomic Force has won 11 of his 37 race starts and has earned more than $745,000 in prize money during his career.

The seven-year-old has won two Group 1 races, the first being in The Galaxy at Randwick Racecourse in April last year.

He went on to win the Group 1 Railway Stakes in New Zealand on January 1, 2012, before placing a close second in the Group 1 Telegraph Stakes.

Atomic Force has a track gallop at Moonee Valley this morning, where he was ridden by jockey Craig Williams.

“Darren (Smith) said he didn’t want to do too much, just let him improve through the gallop and he really enjoyed himself,” Williams said.

Trainer Darren Smith is confident Atomic Force will be at his best in time for the big spring features.

“There’s still some improvement there,” Smith said.

“I’d say he’s 80 per cent fit and I’m hoping that will be enough for Saturday’s race.”
