Pinwheel is close to securing an elusive $1 million in prize money going into this Saturday’s Group 2 Warwick Stakes.
The seven-year-old gelding has won 11 of his 33 race starts so far, and currently sits on more than $965,000 in prize money.
Trainer Peter Snowden is confident the Lonhro gelding will be able to come through with the goods this weekend.
“He has (exceeded expectations) all his life,” Snowden said.
“He’s only a shandy short of a million (dollars) now so he’s done a fantastic job.
“He’s just one of those good horses you love having in your stable.
“He’s no superstar but just performs every time he goes out to the best of his ability.”
While Snowden may claim him to be no superstar, Pinwheel has certainly given his owner Sheik Mohammed something to cheer about this year, winning the Group 3 Missile Stakes last start.
Pinwheel will be looking to post back to back victories in the 2012 Warwick Stakes, after winning the event in 2011.
Snowden believes Pinwheel is in an even better position to win the event this time around.
“His work was good this morning and he’s in good order,” Snowden said.
“He’s going to meet a pretty fair field but he’s going into the race with a bit of residual fitness under his belt and hopefully that will carry him a long way.
“I sort of fluked it a bit last year, conditions sort of fell in his favour.”
