A notable performer over the summer and early autumn of this year, trainer Colin Little has confirmed exciting mare Text’n Hurley will target the featured Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.

Finishing outside the places just once over six starts through her most recent preparation, Text’n Hurley performed well over a mile and secured a comfortable victory in the Lot 1 At Inglis Easter Fillies Maiden when stepping up to 2000m for the first time competitively in February.

Having reportedly taken well to her time in the paddock, Little said he is confident the Hard Spun mare’s form though autumn will figure as a key indicator through spring, and hopes to have her ready to trial at Cranbourne in early August.

“I probably give her a trial at Cranbourne on the 4th of August and then think about running at Flemington on August 9 in the Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m),” Little told Racing Victoria.

“Everything’s really good with her. She’s got a great attitude and a good temperament.

“I’d be pretty keen to give her two 2000m races going into a Caulfield Cup.

“We do have a bit of faith in her getting a mile-and-a-half. We were always freshening her up in the past because the suitable Black-type races for mares were over 1600.

“She relaxes beautifully and she doesn’t pull in her races and one of the main reasons we think that she’ll get a mile-and-a-half is her attitude.”

Securing an impressive total of five race wins and five minor places from just 12 competitive starts so far, Text’n Hurley was a standout performer over her maiden preparation in the 2013 winter and spring, claiming three victories back-to-back most notably on her way to a maiden appearance at Group level in the Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) on September 7th.

Overcoming a disappointing run for sixth in the Allan Wicks Fillies Maiden (1200m) first-up in her most recent campaign, the mare out of Angels claiming minor places in her next two starts before returning to the winner’s circle in the Inglis Easter Fillies Maiden, finished second in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy (1600m) on March 8th and won the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) most recently on March 21st.

Set to target events such as the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) in the lead-up, Text’n Hurley is currently available at generous odds of $34 in early betting markets for success in the 2014 Caulfield Cup with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
