Every year there are numerous racing Cup Carnivals held throughout Australia. Below you will find information on some of the features races held during the Cup Carnivals.
Caulfield Cup Carnival Feature Races
The highlight racing carnival for the Melbourne Racing Club is the three day Caulfield Spring Racing Carnival held every year during October.
There are five Group 1 races held over the three days. The main race of the carnival is the $3 million Group 1 Caulfield Cup, the world’s toughest handicap race over 2400m. The other Group 1 races are: Caulfield Guineas, Thousand Guineas, Caulfield Stakes and Toorak Handicap.
Melbourne Cup Carnival Feature Races
Flemington’s annual Cup Carnival is not only home to the world-renowned Melbourne Cup, but also features a plethora of other elite status thoroughbred races, which is why it is Australia’s most anticipated and respected racing carnival.
There are an incredible eight Group 1 races held throughout the Cup Carnival, as well as an entertaining range of other quality Group 2, 3 and Listed races providing punters and racing enthusiasts with some of the best betting opportunities of the year.
The major feature races of the Cup Carnival are the marquee races for the four Melbourne Cup Carnival Race Days. They are, in order of when they take place, the $1.5 million Group 1 AAMI Victoria Derby (2500m), the $6 million Group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m), the $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m), and the $1 million Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m).
Each of the four headline races have a whole meeting in their honour, and are unique in race distance and conditions.
Other major Group status races held throughout the Cup Carnival that draw the crowds and Australia’s racing elite include the three other Group 1 features held on Victoria Derby Day, the Coolmore Stud Stakes, Mackinnon Stakes and MYER Classic. Emirates Stakes Day also features the Group 1 Darley Classic.
